Are You At Risk For Cancer?
It's sad but all of us are at risk for cancer. I decided I wanted to do an article on cancer risk factors because I believe everyone should be aware of them.
My father passed away 19 years ago from throat cancer. He fought the battle for ten years with it going in remission twice. Back then they didn't have the knowledge they do now. My father also had two brothers that passed away because of throat cancer.
Cancer research has come along way in making strides toward a cure and I believe whole-heartly in giving to continue research.
Some of these factors even I was unaware of. I hope by giving everyone a list and makeing them aware of these factors that it will reinforce the need that all us should see our doctor on a regular basis. This includes you too guys. You are not invinceable to cancer. Early detection goes a long way in the cure department.
Doctors often cannot explain why one person develops cancer and another does not. But research shows that certain factors increase that. These are the most common factors:
Growing older,
Tobacco,
Sunlight,
Ionizing radiation,
Certain chemicals and other substances,
Some viruses and bacteria,
Certain hormones,
Family history of cancer,
Alcohol,
Poor diet, lack of physical activity, or being overweight
Many of these factors can be avoided. Others, such as family history, cannot.
Most cancers occur in people over the age of 65. But people of all ages, including children, can get cancer, too.
Tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death. Each year, more than 180,000 Americans die from cancer that is related to tobacco use
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation comes from the sun, sunlamps, and tanning booths. It causes early aging of the skin and skin damage that can lead to skin cancer.
Jobs (such as painters, construction workers, and those in the chemical industry) have an increased risk of cancer.
Most cancers develop because of changes in genes.
Some gene changes are passed from parent to child.
Most of the time, "multiple" cases of cancer in a family are just a matter of chance.
People with poor diet, not enough physical activity, or overweight may be at increased risk of several types of cancer.
If this article causes just one person to see the importance of regular check ups and staying on top of their health then it was worth taking the time to write it and share it.
Please I can not stress it enough that regular check ups are needed. Ladies please take the time to have mamograms and pelvic examines. Gentleman have your prostrate checked and now more then ever you need breast check ups also.
