Dating-Violence Among Teens
Dating-violence may be the cause of a teenage girl or boy going from a well adjusted youth with big dreams for the future to one that closes themselves off to everyone except the relationship partner.
As a mother of four and grandmother to 13 grandchildren I felt compelled to try and get the word out about dating violence toward teens.
Teen Dating Violence is a pattern of controlling behavior by one teenager over another teenager who are in a dating relationship.
We all are aware of adult violence in relationships be it dating, married, or partner but no one thinks it could happen to teens as well.
Teens are much more likely than adults to become isolated from their peers as the result of controlling behavior by their boyfriend / girlfriend.
For many teens the abusive relationship may be their first dating experience and have never had a normal dating experience with which to compare it.
Some common clues are:
Changes in mood or personality
Indecision
Emotional outburst
Isolation
Physical signs of injury
Truancy
Failing grades
No one deserves to be abused or threatened. Nor can you change the one doing it. Eventurely it just gets worse.
Talk with your teen or if you are a teen talk to a trusted adult or friend.
